We're moving more millions into carbon removal—right now
Backing breakthrough solutions. Accelerating climate progress. Building the market.
We just moved seven figures of new funding directly (and immediately) to a group of cutting-edge projects that are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in permanent greenhouse gas removal.
We’re proud to be backing a range of new companies—CarbonRun, Deep Sky, Eion, NY Carbon, Pyrogen, Sinkco, Terraton, Tradewater and UNDO. These companies represent a range of approaches including enhanced rock weathering, ocean alkalinity enhancement, bio-oil injection, and biochar. We also made follow-on purchases from existing portfolio members Andes, Charm Industrial, Climeworks, Graphyte and TerraFixing.
These aren’t speculative ideas. They’re scalable, science-backed, real-world solutions, and they need capital now to prove they can deliver.
How we’re deploying these funds.
Over the past two years, we’ve focused primarily on pre-purchasing carbon removal. But the market needs more financial innovation, so we’ve been testing new mechanisms, pathways, and partnerships to get capital to the most promising and catalytic solutions. Through this purchase round, Terraset is deploying funds through a broader set of tools and into new areas of impact:
Pre-purchases, our core model
Our proven model of pooling philanthropic capital to buy carbon removal up front from promising early-stage companies.
New financial innovation, like the Terraset Revolving Fund
An ambitious new mechanism we’re launching with the support of the Schmidt Family Foundation to pre-purchase now, sell the credits upon delivery, and reinvest the proceeds, creating a catalytic flywheel for the future of CDR.
Grassroots partnerships, like expanding biochar access in the Hudson Valley
We partnered with 4 Corners and Giving Green to expand access to low-cost, high-impact biochar via grants in New York’s Hudson Valley.
Pilot purchases, including refrigerant destruction and methane abatement
We’re exploring how the elimination of other greenhouse gases fits into our broader removal strategy.
We’re moving money today.
Carbon removal is essential for meeting global climate goals, but the field remains in its infancy. Many promising solutions are still expensive or unproven at scale.
Advanced market commitments and offtake agreements play an important role in signaling demand and building market confidence, but they don’t provide the upfront funding early-stage carbon removal companies need to build and scale. Without this capital, many can’t fulfill their commitments.
Terraset exists to fill this gap.
Our model leverages philanthropic capital to take early risks, unlocking investment, accelerating commercialization, and strengthening the carbon removal ecosystem. Our funding sends a clear market signal: these solutions are ready to grow, and it’s time to invest.
We’re not just buying tons. We’re helping shape the future of carbon removal.
We’re proud to support this cohort of innovators and deeply grateful to the donors who make it possible. Over the coming weeks, we’ll share more about their work and why they’re essential to building a durable, equitable carbon removal ecosystem.
